The Priory of Nuit unequivocally condemns the brutal torture and murder of George Floyd at the hands of police, the latest in a long pattern of unarmed people of color being tortured, murdered or otherwise abused, often without consequence, in the wake of institutionalized, systemic racial injustice in the US, beginning with slavery and continuing with Jim Crow Laws, residential red-lining, and today's educational, law enforcement, and workplace discrimination, among many other examples of this sickness. The Priory supports national systemic and law enforcement reform, including but not limited to a national police Rules of Engagement (ROE) and a Declaration of Citizens Rights, as well as the establishment of a national independent civilian police oversight body empowered to investigate and bring charges when necessary. We must all work to ensure this never happens again.
